Job Description
As the Controls Design Manager, your day-to-day will be:
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of controls designers for electrical layout and schematics according to NFPA79, NEC, CSA, IEC/EN, and UL508A electrical standards
- Plan and allocate resources to ensure successful project execution
- Contribute to all stages of controls design — from concept through commissioning
- Interpret technical requirements and align them with project specifications
- Work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to define scope, deliverables, timelines, and budgets
- Ensure designs meet quality, compliance, and safety standards
- Partner with manufacturing and fabrication teams to validate design integrity
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and drive continuous improvement
- Provide technical support during installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities
- Collaborate with the sales team by preparing technical input and cost estimates
- This position includes occasional international travel in support of project delivery.
You will have:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, with 10+ years’ experience in designing industrial control panels, low-voltage power distribution, and automation systems. A P.Eng. designation is an asset.
- Proven experience in panel design for process equipment (Machinery)
- Familiarity with electrical standards such as NFPA79, NEC, CSA, IEC/EN, and UL508A
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively
