Director, Group Disability – Sun Life

Responsibilities
- Take ownership of operational performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and timeliness across all disability operations (STD, LTD, ECI).
- Make strategic decisions to optimize team capacity while maintaining even workload distribution.
- Optimize return-to-work outcomes in safe, sustainable, and timely ways.
- Spearhead the modernization of operations through digital tools, automation, and data-driven insights.
- Align the Edmonton office with Sun Life’s national disability strategy and innovate claims management, client engagement, and plan member support processes.
- Represent Sun Life at external events, showcasing leadership and industry expertise.
- Lead a high-performing, engaged team through clear expectations, accountability, and empowerment.
- Reduce employee attrition and deliver talent development to nurture future leaders.
- Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and inclusion through personal example.
- Leverage leadership skills to influence national processes and collaborate with BD, IT, HR, Risk, and Legal.
- Take proactive ownership of client relationships, work closely with Business Development to resolve issues, and drive satisfaction.
- Make data-driven decisions to improve client satisfaction scores and support sales efforts.
- Demonstrate strong decision-making skills in implementing change initiatives.
- Influence cross-functional partnerships to achieve business goals.
Success Metrics
- Significant improvements in claim durations and financial results.
- Measurable increase in client and advisor satisfaction scores.
- Substantial decrease in employee turnover and improved engagement metrics.
- Successful implementation of technology and process innovations.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of leadership experience in complex, client-facing operations.
- Strong track record of leading through change and delivering measurable business outcomes.
- Deep knowledge of disability claims management and rehabilitation practices.
- Experience building and developing high-performing teams.
- Strategic mindset with strong execution skills and operational discipline.
- Exceptional communication, influencing, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree (equivalent experience acceptable; advanced credentials are an asset).

Compensation
Base Pay range: $110,000 – $180,000 (depending on location and factors). Eligible employees participate in incentive plans subject to performance.
