We provide supportive and dynamic work environments comprising teams of professionals who are committed to making a difference in the lives of Yukoners.</p><p>As a Bilingual Legislative Counsel member of the Legislative Counsel Office, you will have the opportunity to be part of a quickly evolving legal landscape while at the same time enjoying an unsurpassed natural environment and a culturally and socially vibrant capital city.</p><p>A Bilingual Legislative Counsel must have the highest proficiency in writing in English and French, be able to communicate effectively with instructing officers and colleagues and to analyze, troubleshoot and transform policy and instructions into legally effective draft legislation. Briefing or legal education delivery experience, and an understanding of legislative practice are essential. This position may also be involved in legal research and advice to government on the interpretation, application and legality of proposed and existing legislation and providing other legal advice as required.</p><p>As a member of the Legislative Counsel Office, you will also participate in reviewing and providing feedback on colleagues’ drafts, supporting the wider statutory functions of the office, in developing and helping to improve drafting manuals, procedures and in other special projects concerning LCO’s services.</p><p><b>These positions will be members of the Legislative Counsel Office.</b></p><p><b>The principles that guide are:</b></p><p><b>Reconciliation with Yukon First Nations:</b> Together as DOJ representatives we commit to embracing the spirit of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada entitled Honouring the Truth, Reconciling the Future, by conducting ourselves in our day-to-day business in a manner that embodies the purpose of reconciliation with our First Nations members in the Yukon. Please note selection for further consideration will be based on the information you provide in your resume.</p><ul><li>Experience in the practice of legislative drafting in French (with translation from English to French – including significant experience drafting texts that express the policy and legislative intention of the government accurately in French, as the English and French texts will be equally authoritative.</li><li>Current member of the Law Society of Yukon or current eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Yukon</li><li>Experience analyzing proposed policy, legislation and related legal issues and proposing solutions</li><li>Bilingual in both French and English to a professional standard</li></ul><h3>Knowledge, Skills and Suitability</h3><p>Candidates should have and may be assessed on the following:</p><p>We are looking for a skilled, bilingual legislative counsel to provide legislative drafting services and related advice to the Government of Yukon in accordance with LCO standards and with LCO/LSB/DOJ/GY processes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and written and oral communication skills are required for this position, as well as the ability to provide constructive feedback to colleagues. As Bilingual Legislative Counsel, you must be able to communicate professionally in French and English and may receive instructions and draft in English.</p><p>Duties include performing terminology, legal and documentary research and providing advice about terms and concepts, as well as researching legislation from other jurisdictions and legislation reform initiatives and trends. You will also participate as a member of the Legislative Counsel team, working closely with the Chief Legislative Counsel, other Legislative Counsel, and staff in the unit in the preparation of legislation and in the development, review and maintenance of drafting manuals, conventions and internal procedures.</p><p>Counsel having bilingual legislative drafting experience or closely related experience will be preferred, including the following:</p><ul><li>Experience with or understanding of legislative processes and practice</li><li>Experience giving and responding to feedback about your own and colleagues’ legislative analysis and drafting, including from peers, editors and non-lawyers</li><li>Briefing and/or legal education delivery experience</li></ul><p><b>Additional Information</b></p><p><b>Condition of Employment:</b></p><ul><li>Current member in good standing of the Law Society of Yukon or be currently eligible for admission in the Law Society of Yukon</li><li>Bilingual in both official languages - French and English – proficiency testing will be required</li></ul><p><b>Job Requirement(s):</b></p><ul><li>Occasional Travel in and out-of-territory is required</li><li>Evenings and weekend work is sometimes required</li></ul><h3>Eligibility and Details</h3><p>Dates</p><ul><li>Post Date: 15 August 2025</li><li>Close Date: 15 September 2025</li></ul></p>#J-18808-Ljbffr
