Job DescriptionLicensed Team Leader - Play Space & Site ServicingJoin the City of Edmonton’s Parks and Roads Services Branch within City Operations! We are looking for an exceptional leader to take on the Licensed Team Leader role focused on Play Space & Site Servicing. This position is vital to ensuring the safety, usability, and enjoyment of our play spaces and park facilities for the Edmonton community. You will be instrumental in executing maintenance programs, leading a dedicated team, and ensuring that all work meets Canadian and City standards. If you are an experienced leader with a passion for safety, continuous improvement, and building strong teams, we encourage you to apply!Reporting to the Supervisor, Play Space and Site Furnishings, you will be responsible for the execution of the maintenance program for play space-related assets within a quadrant of the City. Your year-round responsibilities include providing field-level supervision and hands-on leadership for maintenance crews , ensuring work aligns with City of Edmonton Standards and minimizes liability risks associated with playground injuries. Key to this role is leading a team through seasonal work plans, which includes overseeing play space maintenance, site servicing, garbage container removal, and outdoor washroom servicing. You will also act as a technical resource, develop standards and procedures, and play a crucial role in the inspection and approval of park construction to ensure compliance with CAN/CSA Z-614 standards.* Lead and Supervise Teams: Oversee 1-3 direct reports and supervise up to 40 staff, providing coaching, performance, and attendance management for staff under your direction* Provide direction, leadership and coordination of the approved annual work plan, set daily priorities, and ensure the timely provision of resources materials, equipment and supplies* Review plans specific to playground development in collaboration with landscape architects, project managers, and other city planners. Coordinate and ensure routing and work plans are executed for Site Servicing activities. With the Certified Canadian Playground Safety Inspectors certification, ensure all parkland amenities comply with the Canadian Standards Association Z614 Childrens' Play Spaces standard* Review weekly and monthly management and financial reports to direct the work of teams and crews. Provide input into the annual budget process , and track requisitions and purchases for site maintenance* Provide safety instruction to staff as necessary ; ensures safety programs and information are disseminated and adhered to. Investigate complaints and concerns from 311, supervisors, and through other means* Maintain effective working relations with the public, City departments, and external suppliers to meet customer and park/facility operational needs. Maintain strong union relations with CUPE 30## Qualifications:* Completion of a University Bachelor degree in Engineering, Science, Arts, Education, Business or other related field. Other completed educational equivalencies may be considered* 3 years of progressively responsible related work experience parks construction, maintenance or operations of which at least 2 years shall be supervisory experience* Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) certification is required or must be able to obtain within 12 months of employment**Assets:*** PMP certification, a directly related professional designation or coursework/training in project management* Additional certification or coursework/training in financial management, public administration, change management, or other leadership training**Skills required for success:*** Ability and willingness to delegate tasks, empower staff, and provide hands-on leadership as required by seasonal and operational needs* Demonstrated leadership and team building skills in front line, unionized operations* Willingness to work with a continuous improvement approach, constantly looking for ways to provide enhancements to service delivery, and adapting to new technology, equipment, and strategic priorities* Proven ability to manage budgets, track expenditures, and make responsible resource allocation decisions to ensure work is delivered on time and within budget* Knowledge of city/department policies/procedures/standards and relevant legislation (WHMIS)* Ability to lead and develop effective work crews , and to train and educate crew members in assigned functional areas.* Ability to effectively mediate conflicts among staff, address public concerns, and negotiate terms with external suppliers and contractors* Experience with play space assets or other asset management (between 1-3 years)* Experience working with multiple disciplines, large seasonal operations, and staff change over* Capacity to resolve technical challenges related to program and project deliverables, make accurate operational decisions, and propose creative solutions while considering available resources and industry best practice* Experience managing and working with external contractors* Strong written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills* Experience with Google, Google Docs, Google Sheets, other Google Suite Applications, GIS applications and SAP.* Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ()* Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion* Applicants may be tested**Conditions of Employment:*** Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) or higher.
