<h3>The Opportunity</h3>
<p>Reporting to the Manager, Third Party Residential Underwriting, the Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for rendering credit decisions on incoming applications within their authorized limits and with adherence to company and insurer policies and guidelines while focusing on service excellence. The Mortgage Underwriter has responsibility for applying due diligence when reviewing required documentation to ensure accuracy and to protect the Company from risk. Manage files from the time they are committed by the underwriter until all the broker’s conditions are met on the commitment.</p>
<h3>How you will contribute</h3>
<ul>
<li>Establishes and maintains positive relationships with mortgage brokers to build loyalty to the Company</li>
<li>Maintains positive relationships with external partners such as mortgage insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, and solicitors</li>
<li>Interacts with mortgage brokers for the collection of all required documents to satisfy mortgage commitment conditions</li>
<li>Reviews and verifies accuracy of required documentation related to income, down payment and the property using sound due diligence and in compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines prior to signing off on any mortgage conditions or documents, where applicable</li>
<li>Escalates any documentation issues to the Underwriter for review and sign off</li>
<li>Documents clear and complete notes within the mortgage underwriting system</li>
<li>Responds to all inquiries within established turnaround times</li>
<li>Adhere to policies/procedures to ensure AML requirements are met.</li>
</ul>

<h3>The experience you need</h3>
<ul>
<li>Completed post-secondary education or equivalent work experience required</li>
<li>Minimum 2 years previous mortgage underwriting experience required</li>
<li>Completion of Mortgage Agent Course and/or FSRA License an asset</li>
<li>Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment required</li>
</ul>
<p>In accordance with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), if a successful candidate is not already licensed, upon starting with First National, they will be registered for the applicable educational courses and upon successful completion of the exam, First National will register them with FSRA to complete the licensing process.</p>
