Job Description

Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our dynamic Technical Accounting team. In this role, you will be instrumental in producing high-quality financial reports, providing analytical support, and ensuring compliance with various regulatory standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors while contributing to the professional development of your colleagues.

This is a hybrid role, with three days per week in our downtown Toronto office (walking distance from Union station).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive financial statements in compliance with international standards.
  • Oversee the submission of quarterly data for internal analysis and external reporting.
  • Manage regulatory filings and ensure accurate documentation for Board meetings.
  • Create and maintain quarterly reporting packages that reflect financial performance.
  • Reconcile data from administrative and accounting systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Analyze differences between various accounting standards, including IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Approve crucial financial entries related to pensions and regulatory fees.
  • Work closely with various internal departments, including Claims, Underwriting, and Distribution, to validate data.
  • Liaise with affiliates across Canada, the US, and Europe to coordinate internal reporting efforts.
  • Prepare detailed financial statements and disclosures for annual audits.
  • Serve as the point of contact for pension audits and the preparation of related financial documents.
  • Mentor and coach team members to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Address special projects and requests from management as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional accounting designation, such as Chartered Professional Accountant, is preferred.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in the accounting sector, ideally within property and casualty insurance.
  • Experience in a public audit firm working with insurance and pension clients would be ideal.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, with a focus on IFRS 17.
    IFRS 17 is a requirement.
  • Exceptional analytical skills combined with strong accounting expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
