<p><h3>Position Title: Assistant Prosecutor</h3>
<p>Type: Permanent Full-time, Non-union</p>
<p>Starting Compensation: $45.21 – $48.88 per hour ($82,271.57 - $88,961.60 per year)</p>
<p>Hours: 35 hours per week</p>

<h3>About The Role</h3>
<p>Reporting to the Director of Legal Services, the Assistant Prosecutor is responsible for coordinating disclosure, carrying out earlier resolution duties, and assisting with prosecutions in the Elgin - St. Thomas Provincial Offences Court (Parts I, II, III, and IX pursuant to the Provincial Offences Act), primarily focusing on supportive and administrative functions associated with prosecutions.</p>
<h3>Your Responsibilities Include</h3>
<ul>
<li>Assist the Prosecutor in the preparation of prosecution cases including the coordination of documentary evidence, property ownership records, corporate searches, conviction records;</li>
<li>Primary responsibility over administrative duties related to prosecutions including to receive, review, and vet disclosure from enforcement agencies and provide it to defendants, legal counsel and/or representatives while ensuring maintenance of all internal records for such activities;</li>
<li>Perform pre-trial consultations with enforcement agencies;</li>
<li>Maintains and updates the status of prosecutions within the Courts Administration Management System (CAMS);</li>
<li>Using court dockets provided by POA staff, confirm all briefs have been received before each resolution date and/or court date and follow-up with any post-court requirements, schedule appointments and document updates in files;</li>
<li>Conducts early resolution meetings with defendants, legal counsel and/or representatives;</li>
<li>In support of and secondary to the Prosecutor, responsible for the carriage of, preparation for, appearance upon motions and trials in St. Thomas-Elgin Provincial Offences Court and/or attendance upon appeals pursuant to the Provincial Offences Act, as required from time to time;</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Possess a college diploma in paralegal studies or equivalent;</li>
<li>Membership in good standing as a Licensee with the Law Society of Ontario;</li>
<li>Demonstrated familiarity with the Provincial Offences Court system required;</li>
<li>Demonstrated knowledge of the prosecution process is preferred experience, but is not required;</li>
<li>Experience appearing in court as a qualified representative is considered a preferred experience, but is not required;</li>
<li>Working knowledge of and ability to interpret and use statutes and regulations including, but not limited to: Provincial Offences Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Cannabis Act, Evidence Act, Legislation Act, Fire Code, Building Code Act, Building Code, Highway Traffic Act and Charter of Rights and Freedoms;</li>
<li>Proven professional communication skills, both in writing and orally, to present complex legal information to audiences at different skill levels;</li>
<li>Ability to perform under strict time demands and deadlines while adjusting priorities amongst multiple files is essential;</li>
<li>Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization and to participate as an effective team member is necessary;</li>
<li>Applied skills for computer programs, such as CAMS, Word, Excel, and Outlook, are required;</li>
<li>Ability to negotiate, carry out critical analysis of case and legal issues and determine appropriate resolutions in conformance with legislative objectives, policy and rights frameworks;</li>
<li>Fluency in French language (oral and/or written) would be an asset;</li>
<li>A satisfactory Police Record Check is required as a condition of employment.</li>
