Course lecturer positions are governed by the Collective Agreement between McGill University and McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union (MCLIU)-CSN.</p><p>Course Number and Title (CRN):</p><p>EDEM 609 Critical Perspectives in Educational Theory and Research</p><p>Hiring Unit:</p><p>Office of First Nation and Inuit Education (OFNIE)</p><p>Course Description: Critical exploration of contemporary issues in educational theory and research, in terms of current scholarship in the field, current educational contexts, and various research paradigms. Educational issues as expressions of social, ethical, political, economic, epistemological and cultural reconfigurations. Students will learn to be critical consumers of educational theories and research.</p><p>Posting Dates: December , 2025 (two day supplemental)</p><p>Application Deadline: December 18, 2025</p><p>CL Credits: 3</p><p>Number of Positions Available: 1</p><p>Term: Winter 2026</p><p>Course Dates: January 5 - February 6, 2026</p><p>Contract dates: December 19, February 6, 2026</p><p>Schedule: TBA - Online: Synchronous and Asynchronous (evenings).</p><p>Location: James Bay (online)</p><p>Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):</p><p>Education</p><ul><li>PhD (in exceptional cases, PhD candidates and master teachers with an MA with extensive relevant experience will be considered)</li></ul><p>Experience</p><ul><li>Expert knowledge of:</li><li>Educational theories</li><li>Approaches to educational research</li><li>Critical perspectives on educational theories</li><li>Current knowledge of educational issues and research findings</li><li>Experience as a school administrator, institutional leader, community leader or master teacher/instructor</li><li>Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.</li><li>Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l'Éducation</li><li>Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.</li></ul><p>Other</p><ul><li>Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the graduate level</li><li>Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion</li><li>Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences</li><li>Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset</li><li>Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools</li><li>This course must be modified to the cultural, social and educational contexts of the community in which it is being given.</li><li>Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date</li><li>Preferred candidate will have demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts and connection to First Nations and Inuit communities.</li><li>Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date</li></ul><p>Additional Information:</p><p>Effective dates of the appointment are December 19, February 20, 2026.
