Their mission is to build lasting relationships, push boundaries through innovation and empowerment, and consistently deliver complex steel construction projects on time.</p><p>With health and safety as their top priority, they are seeking to welcome a Health and Safety Manager to their team in Ottawa.</p><p><b>Job Title</b>: Health & Safety Manager</p><p><br></p><p><b>Employment Type: </b> This position is full-time/permanent</p><p><br></p><p><b>Location: </b>Health & Safety Manager is based in<b> </b>Ottawa, Ontario</p><p><br></p><p><b>Compensation Range: </b></p><p><br></p><p>This position offers a competitive compensation structure that includes attractive compensation and benefits.</p><p><b>Health & Safety Manager</b> <b>Role Summary:</b></p><p><br></p><p>The health and safety manager is responsible for leading the company’s safety programs, overseeing compliance, and driving continuous improvement across all sites and projects. This role requires a strong leader who can provide both strategic direction and hands-on support.</p><p><br></p><p>Based in the office and across one or more construction sites in the Ottawa region, the Health & Safety Manager will work closely with site safety representatives nominated by workers and with the company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee representative. The role also supports strong relationships with employees, customers, and suppliers.</p><p><br></p><p><b>Health & Safety Manager Primary Duties & Responsibilities Specific duties and responsibilities include</b>:</p><ul><li>Maintain and update company’s health and safety policies and programs</li><li>Maintain and update company safety manuals, procedures, and emergency response plans.</li><li>Ensure company’s policies are in compliance with and meets all legislative requirements (MOL, OHSA, etc.)</li><li>Act as a trusted expert to senior management on all matters related to health, safety, and regulatory compliance</li><li>Champion and promote a strong safety culture throughout the company by advocating safe work practices, engaging employees at all levels, and reinforcing the organization’s commitment to health and safety.</li><li>Provide coaching and mentorship to supervisors and employees to build accountability for safety.</li><li>Oversee the collection, analysis, and communication of safety performance metrics.</li><li>Update, maintain and present a health and safety orientation program for all new employees to ensure a complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviours within the workplace. </li><li>Identify safety training needs and coordinate training </li><li>Organize and document the annual Health and Safety meeting with all employees, including preparing minutes.</li><li>Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and workshops across worksites.</li><li>Working closely with the site’s safety reps, conduct practical hazard analysis for all job sites.</li><li>Responsible for tracking safety infractions & reporting to management on trends.</li><li>Monitor and recommend corrective actions</li><li>Lead safety incidents reporting and investigation.</li><li>Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating with, training and following up with managers/supervisors and employees </li><li>Manage return to work programs proactively, working closely with the employees, their manager/supervisor and WSIB.</li><li>Ensure monthly safety site inspections are completed in collaboration with safety committee members and site safety representatives, and follow up on all findings to ensure timely and appropriate resolution.</li><li>Carry out internal safety audits as needed</li><li>Participate in the company’s Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and support the effective functioning of the JHSC.</li><li>Collaborate with safety representatives to maintain Health and Safety communication boards</li><li>Initiate, implement and support the company’s current or future safety initiatives, including obtaining health and safety management system certification for COR.</li><li>Responsible for the preparation of all health and safety inventory and necessary documentation for the start of a new project.</li><li>Responsible for all subcontractor contractual safety documents and certifications</li><li>Manage subcontractors' safety documentation audits</li><li>Manage employee safety reward program </li><li>Other related duties as assigned </li></ul><p><br></p><p><b>To be considered for this role, the “Health and Safety Manager” must have the following qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.</li><li>Minimum 4 years of progressive OHS experience, including leadership or management responsibilities in the construction sector.</li><li>In-depth knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health & Safety Act and related legislation- Construction regulation.</li><li>Proven experience in program development, audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.</li><li>Certified JHSC member and valid first aid certification are assets.</li><li>Experience and knowledge with COR or ISO45001- health and safety management system auditing.</li><li>Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.</li><li>Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player.</li><li> Ability to multitask with minimal supervision and guidance to meet assigned KIPs.</li><li>Proficient organizational and time management skills</li><li>Computer-related working knowledge and eagerness to learn.</li><li>Must have a valid driving licence.</li><li>Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><b>How to apply?</b></p><p>You can also apply by submitting your resume directly online on our website or emailing it to us.
