Position Summary:
The Product Owner manages the business-led intake of technology enhancement requests outside major projects. Reporting into the business, the role evaluates, prioritizes, and prepares requests for IT estimation while maintaining alignment with business leads and IT Delivery. The Product Owner ensures clear communication, effective backlog governance, and smooth progression through the delivery lifecycle, while partnering with the Product Manager to support value-based decisions and executive reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Enhancement Intake Management & Prioritization
- Oversee all enhancement intake requests and assess based on business value, urgency, and assumed IT effort.
- Maintain a transparent, prioritized backlog that reflects business value and delivery feasibility.
Requirements Quality & Readiness
- Review and refine incoming requests to ensure requirements and acceptance criteria are complete, clear, and ready for IT estimation.
- Partner with requestors to close gaps and keep requirements aligned with intended business outcomes.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with IT Delivery Leads to advance enhancement items through intake, estimation, refinement, and release planning.
- Represent the business in intake reviews and backlog refinement sessions.
- Collaborate with the business Product Manager to ensure shared visibility on priorities, upcoming reviews, and delivered value.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Lead regular group updates with business leads to review progress, backlog decisions, blockers, and upcoming work.
- Keep requestors aligned and accountable for refinements and responses needed to ensure delivery.
- Ensure consistent understanding of intake expectations, timelines, and prioritization rationale.
Governance, Delivery Support & Reporting
- Monitor enhancement progress and identify risks or bottlenecks early, coordinating with business and IT partners to resolve issues.
- Provide timely reporting to the Product Manager on intake trends, backlog status, value delivered, and upcoming priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field such as Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or Marketing.
- 3+ years of Product Owner experience, ideally within a business‑owned product environment, overseeing enhancement and value‑driven intake processes.
- Proven track record in team management and service delivery
- Product owner certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner, SAFe Product Owner Certification) are a plus
- Customer‑focused mindset with a commitment to delivering business value.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Effective negotiation and influencing capabilities across cross‑functional teams.
- Highly resourceful, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and identify solutions proactively.
- Solid decision‑making grounded in sound judgment and business context.
- Demonstrates ownership and accountability in driving initiatives to completion.
- Ability to motivate and align stakeholders and partner teams.

Highway 407 ETR is an all-electronic open-access toll highway located in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. The highway spans 108 kilometres from Burlington in the west to Pickering in the east.
