Maintenance / Refrigeration Operator (Class A – TSSA)

Our Mississauga facility is hiring a Maintenance / Refrigeration Operator (Class A) to support the safe, reliable operation of industrial refrigeration systems within a food manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of ammonia- and CO-based refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance with TSSA regulations and supporting plant uptime and safety.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Operate and monitor industrial refrigeration plants to ensure safe and efficient performance
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on refrigeration equipment
Respond to system alarms, emergencies, and equipment failures
Conduct scheduled refrigerant leak inspections and maintain required documentation
Read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings
Maintain accurate logs and operating records for critical systems
Manage refrigeration spare parts inventory, including refrigerant levels
Maintain a clean, organized engine room using 5S standards
Coordinate with maintenance, operations, sanitation, and health & safety teams
Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives
Systems & Equipment
Industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia, CO, and related refrigerants)
Compressors, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and controls
Cold storage and production cooling systems
Engine rooms, compressor rooms, and mechanical spaces
What We’re Looking For
Required:
Valid Ontario Refrigeration Operator Class A (TSSA) certification
433A Industrial Millwright license
Experience operating and maintaining industrial refrigeration systems
Strong mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of refrigeration safety standards and regulatory compliance
Comfortable responding to alarms and emergency situations
Strong documentation and safety-focused work habits
Preferred:
Experience in food manufacturing, cold storage, or industrial facilities
Familiarity with ammonia and CO systems
Work Environment & Schedule
Industrial manufacturing environment
Exposure to cold storage areas and mechanical rooms
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and varying temperatures
Willingness to work various shifts, rotational coverage, and emergency on-call
Physical requirements include climbing, lifting, and handling tools and components
