<h3>1.0 FTE Continuing District School Psychologist</h3><p>Join to apply for the <strong>1.0 FTE Continuing District School Psychologist</strong> role at <strong>School District #8 (Kootenay Lake)</strong></p>
<p>School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) (SD8) is committed to fostering inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environments that meet the diverse needs of all students. SD8 values collaboration, innovation, and student-centered practices to promote academic success, mental wellness, and positive social development. We are seeking a dedicated and qualified District School Psychologist to join our team and support learners across the district by providing expert school psychological services.</p>
<p>This is a 1.0 continuing position to provide added support for psychological services in School District 8.</p>
<p>The applicant will be required to travel throughout Nelson, the North Shore, Salmo, and the Slocan Valley.</p>
<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3>
<ol>
<li><strong>Psychoeducational Assessment and Evaluation:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational and behavioral assessments for students in kindergarten through Grade 12.</li>
<li>Identify students' cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral strengths and challenges.</li>
<li>Interpret assessment results and provide data-driven recommendations to educators, parents/guardians, and students to support individualized learning plans.</li>
<li>Assist in determining students' eligibility for specific Ministry of Education and Child Care inclusive education designations and services, including reviewing student files, IEPs, and psychoeducational files.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Provision of Universal, Targeted, and Intensive Supports and Interventions:</strong>
<ul>
<li><strong>Universal Supports:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with school teams to implement district-wide strategies promoting mental wellness and inclusive practices.</li>
<li>Deliver professional development workshops on evidence-based practices in mental health, learning strategies, and positive behavior supports.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Targeted Supports:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Recommend school interventions through the district-based team referral process to address shared learning gaps.</li>
<li>Monitor and assess the effectiveness of interventions, adjusting as necessary.</li>
<li>Monitor intervention outcomes and student progress in schools and classrooms.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Intensive Supports:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans for students with significant needs.</li>
<li>Participate in the creation and review of IEPs and Positive Behavior Support Plans.</li>
<li>Report regularly on intervention outcomes and student progress to schools and the district.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Consultation and Collaboration:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Work with school-based teams, teachers, administrators, parents, and external professionals.</li>
<li>Provide guidance and training to educators on supporting neurodiverse learners.</li>
<li>Coordinate with community agencies to support students and families.</li>
<li>Offer consultation on classroom adaptations, learning modifications, and behavioral interventions.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Member of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT):</strong>
<ul>
<li>Participate in the district's CIRT to support during and after critical incidents.</li>
<li>Develop and deliver crisis response training for school personnel.</li>
<li>Help refine and implement district safety and crisis protocols.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><strong>Facilitation of Professional Development and Capacity Building:</strong>
<ul>
<li>Develop and present professional learning sessions on topics like learning disabilities, behavioral support, mental health, and trauma-informed practices, aligned with BC MHiS Strategy.</li>
<li>Support ongoing inclusive practices through collaboration with educators.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ol>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li><strong>Education:</strong> Masters degree in School Psychology or related field, with graduate training in measurement, learning theory, development, and assessment.</li>
<li><strong>Certification:</strong> Current registration (required by May 1, 2024). Certification and extensive experience in Level B and C psychoeducational and behavioral assessments are required.</li>
<li><strong>Experience:</strong> Proven experience in psychoeducational assessments in K-12, designing and monitoring interventions, providing staff training, and crisis management. Experience with trauma-informed practices is an asset.</li>
<li><strong>Skills:</strong> Strong interpersonal and communication skills, commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, ability to work independently, familiarity with data analysis tools.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Additional Information</h3>
<ul>
<li>Travel across district schools requires a valid BC driver’s license and reliable transportation.</li>
<li>Successful candidates will undergo a criminal record check.</li>
</ul>
