Learn more about the role below:</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>POSITION OVERVIEW</strong></p><p>Working with internal and external stakeholders, this position provides engineering services backed by expertise in relevant Fire and Building Codes.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>JOB FUNCTIONS</strong></p><ul><li>Undertake design, design review, and managing projects including site reviews and assessing the fire protection systems in a building and apply Canadian provincial and national Building and Fire Codes, CAN/ULC, NFPA standards, and best practice guidelines related to Fire Protection Systems.</li><li>Project manage system installations in close coordination with contractors and other cross-functional teams. Attend construction and pre-construction site meetings.</li><li>Apply and provide interpretations of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and ULC/NFPA standards to internal and external client.</li><li>Take leadership in resolving compliance matters and attending meetings with stakeholders and with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.</li><li>Provide hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, drawings, and specifications. Develop Alternative Solutions and prepare project reports with cost estimates.</li><li>Assess performance of existing sprinkler, standpipe, fire water pumps, and special suppression systems (e.g., low/high expansion foam systems, chemical powder, and clean agent fire suppression systems), selecting proper and cost-effective solutions for replacement using applicable Codes and standards.</li><li>Support internal and external clients by advising on application of Codes and standards.</li><li>Conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions and review construction, review shop drawings, attend tests, and commissioning of the systems.</li><li><strong> </strong>Assist Finance team with project billing.</li><li>Represent LRI on various technical committees, both provincial and national as may be required.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong> QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>University degree in Mechanical Engineering. P. Eng. title is a must.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of experience in a Fire Protection Systems engineering and project management with expertise in sprinklers and pump systems.
